The Empowered Tools Initiative provides tools and training to veterans and first responders who have upper body limb loss or loss of hand function they need to regain capability and access to vocational opportunities.
Through this program, eligible veterans and first responders receive a DeWALT® power toolkit adapted with the LifeWork® Adapter for use with prosthetics. The kit includes reciprocating saws, circular saws, grinders and more.
Participants receive hands-on training and evaluation on using the tools safely and effectively to complete basic tasks. This builds their confidence in utilizing the equipment.
While the medical community does much for those with limb loss, the simple fact is - the world is not adapted to their specific needs.
The hobbies they enjoyed, the work they were trained for, and everyday activities are sometimes out of reach. This is particularly true with regard to power tools, gardening equipment, and sporting equipment.
Many veterans and first responders are trained to use tools, but those who have suffered an upper body limb loss struggle to use tools safely and effectively. Warriors Prosthetic Initiative went looking for a solution.
Warriors Prosthetic Initiative is working with LifeWork Adapter to make life easier for our fellow veterans.
LifeWork Adapter developed devices that enable those with upper body limb loss and loss of functionality to safely and effectively use power tools and gardening equipment.
In additional, LifeWork® Adapter develops other devices for adapting sporting equipment for use with prosthetics used by those with upper body limb loss.
In addition to training, eligible veterans and first responders receive a DeWALT® power toolkit adapted with the LifeWork® Adapter for use with prosthetics. The kit includes reciprocating saws, circular saws, grinders and more.
The adapted tool kits adapt tool for safe and effective use with Hosmer 5, 5X, and 8 hooks.
In addition, the adapted tool kit includes pole adapters for use with gardening equipment including lead blowers, weed eaters, lawn mowers, tree trimmers, and other pole tools.
So many of our injured veterans want to “get back down range.”
For some that means down range in theater. But, for many veterans, it means returning to hobbies or careers they love. Adapted powertool gives them access.
Warriors Prosthetic Initiative is raising funds to give away adapted toolkits and training to injured veterans. For every $6500 raised, we will be able to provide training and give away a full LifeWork® Adapter Tool Kit, which includes adapted reciprocating saw, circular saw, grinder, and oscillating multi-tool from DeWALT.
In service to those who were injured in service to us, we adapt the world so that those who served can return to work that interests them and hobbies they love.
